On the afternoon that this image was made the railinged statue of Queen Anne in front of St Pauls was already in the shade whilst the cathedral's west front, being that much higher, was exposed to the sun's unremittingly bright gaze. As Chris explains:
"The deep blue sky was only broken by the streak of a single whispy, high altitude cloud above the shadowed buildings off to the right but it was the dazzling glow of the polythene sheeting on the roof-top building works immediately below that stopped me in my tracks.
Stooping low I set a wide focal length and tried to use the sweeping ark of the railings to tie the whole image together. The truncated nature of the cathedral pleased me too - although I've no idea why..."
