If you have been viewing this collection sequentially you will have already gathered that Chanctonbury Ring is a favourite South Downs location of Chris'. This image was made immediately below the ring, on the steep, angled track (aka "bostal" in ancient Sussex dialect) that climbs the scarp slope.

It was the fallen tree that attracted Chris' attention in the first place - especially the way the dappled light picked out the detail around it's sawn bulk. In fact the tree must have plumetted with an almighty crash, a fact clearly evidenced in the stripped branches and ripped bark of it's still standing one-time neighbour.
