This is the first panorama made by Chris in Paris - in France indeed. As the title indicates, it was made in Montmartre, opposite the cafe-restaurant "Maison Rose". Sacre Cour can be seen against the right skyline.

In 1876 Renoir could have regularly been seen in this street - lugging a large canvas back and forth between his nearby studio and a similarly close al fresco dance hall. The completed canvas now hangs in the Musée d'Orsay. It is (of course) "Bal du Moulin de la Gallette". (See right).

Whilst the area does now suffer the inevitable pressures of tourism, it does retain it's cobbled charm. Chris has tried to depict both. Aided, it has to be said, by a fascinating miscellany of rather excentric sightseers.
