This image was made at the London intersection that includes St Martins Lane and Long Acre. It was made shortly before the Photographers Gallery moved from the adjacent Great Newport Street and it can be seen at the left side of the image.

The actual camera position chosen was on the paved pedestrian island. This gave opportunity to compose the image using the vertical lines of the island's traffic lights and lamposts - and, in post production, the people that subsequently crossed the road.

As is often the case though, chance played a part in the success of the image as two cycle rickshaws happened past, one as a speeding blur on the opposite side of the road, the other in sharp detail as the rider parked-up, waiting for a fare.
