If you are viewing this collection sequentially you may notice that this contre-jour image is made close to the location of the previous shot. (The distinctive tower of the coastguard building being the giveaway). In fact, whilst this one was made only a few metres away (just by an adjacent cafe) it was actually taken two years later. On this occasion Chris was just about done composing with the various elements of traffic bollards, metal ad signs (one beautifully highlighted by reflected light) and the above-mentioned tower etc, when the chance arrival of a refrigerated delivery van changed everything. As he relates:-

"To be honest, my first reaction was to feel it was an unwanted interruption but that quickly changed as the driver got out, retrieved a sack barrow from beneath the truck and threw open it's rear doors. As he did so freezing air spilled out, catching the low-angled sunlight quite spectacularly. Now, thinking back, my recollection is that the driver was only inside for a few seconds but for the life of me I can't actually remember whether this solitary shot was made as he got in or as he reversed out. Either way, there is extra tension in that as it was exposed the driver's rising (or lowering?) foot was perfectly counterpointed by it's own elongated shadow".

In retospect a fleeting, Cartier-Bresson-esqe moment...
