Perhaps the most distinctive aspect of Chris' single shot images is the way in which he will often tilt the camera to - as he puts it - "fit" the image in the camera viewfinder. He sees this as a critical factor in his image making: The lines, shapes and textures present in front of the camera are more critical when composing the image than any association in terms of what "the subject" is, per se.

In this particular case the location was Orchard Place in Arundel - a fact that wasn't entirely without interest, as such, because the intention - as Chris later explained - was to feature the cathedral as a backdrop to the terraced street. However, when it came to the crunch he realized that whilst the blankness of the close-at-hand terrace-end would work well if it filled a large part of the left side, he felt that the right side of the street was crying out to hug close to right edge of the viewfinder rectangle.
