It was from the train that I spotted the frozen ground around the Shoreham BMX park. The nearby cold harbour had kept the temperature down by an extra degree or two so that the morning frost - long-since melted everywhere else - had lingered there all day.
Having walked back from the next station, my attention soon switched from the landscape at large to the BMX park itself. It's iron-hard ground seemed to hold no fears for the local lads: They were out in force. And going for gold!
After asking if they'd mind, I was soon laying by one of the high jumps - in an attempt to catch them as they soared between the two mounds that constituted the take-off and landing ramps.
