Hungerford Bridge crosses the Thames just adjacent to London's arts complex, the Southbank. It's central section is a railway crossing - for trains into Charing Cross. On either side though are two footbridges, constructed to comemorate the Queen's Golden Jubilee in 2002.

The vantage point for this view is on the steps leading up from the riverside walkway beneath. The massive timbers that support the railway lines are imediately above and the wall of the steps is below, both in heavy shadow. By contrast, the downstream walkway is here bathed in sunlight - as are the figures pausing or passing along it's length.

It was the positioning of this wedge-shaped sunlit section within the image rectangle that most occupied Chris' attention.
