Chris always says that making photographs in bluebell woods is a tricky process: He finds that the bluebells themselves always seem to be better "over there". When you get over there though they look better back where you were... His theory is that because you are looking obliquely at the bluebells that remain in the distance, you see the blue of the the actual flowers in seried ranks of near solid blue. By contrast, those closer at hand are seen at a steeper angle, so each individual flower is isolated from it's neighbours and appears surrounded by greenery.

Either way, of many fantastic places for bluebell woods on or around the South Downs this location, the Angmering Park Estate, near Arundel, is one of the best.
